Closing the Loop: Polyurethane Recycling for A Sustainable Future Polyurethanes contribute to sustainable outcomes in many ways. One of the most important ways in which we can protect our natural resources is by reducing waste through reuse and recycling. Many manufacturers today are working toward a closed-loop supply chain, in which new products are made entirely from recycled materials. As a highly recyclable substance, polyurethane is playing a major role in this effort. Polyurethane is recycled in one of two ways: either mechanically, in which it’s reused in its polymer form, or chemically, in which it’s broken back down into its chemical components. Some common uses for recycled polyurethane include as carpet padding, as boards and moldings that can be used in soundproofing and flooring, and now even shoes!

Our Story
The idea of Mercy Made was born in December 2018 at a Tony Robbins event. Founded by Danika Gisvold & Brian Yang. Danika wanted to create a business that focused on contribution and her love for animals first. As a vegan and shoe lover Danika had a hard time finding cute cruelty free shoes. She figured she would just start her own shoe brand and that she did!
Mercy Made focuses on veganism and empowering women first! At the Tony Robbins event Danika learned the importance of “I am” statements and how they help reinforce positive beliefs about ourselves. Women are usually the hardest on themselves and Danika wanted to help women remind themselves how amazing they are every time they step into their pair of Mercy Made shoes.
By showcasing animals that are typically used for non vegan shoes, Mercy Made is hoping to help people make the connection to these sentient beings who feel pain and want to live as much as we do. We don’t need to harm or kill animals for fashion or food.
10% of our profits each month will be donated to animal sanctuaries like The Gentle Barn and Trunks Up. Trunks up is a non profit organization that rescues elephants from riding tourism and relocates them to Elephant Nature Park, a non profit elephant sanctuary.
Our shoes are designed in Los Angles, CA and hand made in Mexico. They are made of recycled polyurethane, which not only helps produce durable high quality shoes but also massively reduces waste impact on the earth.
